Artwork I created, based on a Folk tale I heard.
There was woman who had a very loving fiance. He would express his love and appreciation daily. However, unbeknownst to him, the woman cared not for love, and instead, she lusted for pleasure. Every morning he showed his undying love, and every night he did the same. The woman only asked for him to make love to her, but she would never display love from herself. As the gods watched over the earth, they saw the woman leave her and her fiance's villa, in the cover of night, to fornicate with strangers.
Each night they watched as she shamelessly betrayed the love of her fiance. Until the gods came down at half way Lauds, to wake him from his sleep. The fiance sat up in his bed, and saw that he was alone in it. He beheld the gods, standing before him, and asked of them:
"Where is my love?"
"She hath forsaken thou, for fleeting pleasure." answered one of the gods.
The fiance's heart was broken, but the gods decided with him, to give her a second chance and test her love towards him. If she failed, she would be cursed. At half way Tierce, the woman returned home to her fiance. She saw that he was already awakened, and cooked a proper morning's meal for them both. Her fiance looked upon her, in genuine happiness, to see his love had come home.
"Did thou sleep well my love?" he asked of her.
"Yes, and I dreamed a wonderful dream." she replied.
The fiance smiled, but was sad within, for the woman had lied to him. With hope in his now weakening heart, he asked of her another question:
"Doeth thou know I love thee?"
"Yes, for thou hath shown me, every waking hour." she answered with a smile.
Her fiance's heart was now weary and broken; he spoke no more through out the day. As every night, the gods watched, and as every night, the woman left her fiance to philander with strangers again. The gods, revolted by her deception and betrayal, came down to confront the woman.
"Why hast thou betrayed the love of thy fiance?" asked one of the gods.
Fearful and unable to lie to the gods, who have watched her actions, she answered truthfully.
"I do not love him."
"Then why art thou still with him?" Asked another god.
"Thou could hath told him that thy love was absent." said the other god.
"Instead thou chose to deceive his faith for thy own gain." aforespoke one god, angered for what the woman had done.
For the woman had failed her test and continued her actions, she was to be cursed.
"For thy fornication, thy shalt walk the earth and be carnal with strangers. For thy deception, thy shalt only fornicate at laud whilst the strangers slumber. For thy shamelessness, thy shalt wander naked. Thou shalt never bare children of thy own, thou shalt never care for an infant for thy teats shall not provide them nourishment, but shall be the mouths of thy lusting spirit. All who thou fornicate with shall become ill and any who fall in love with thee shall die. Thou shalt feel pain in thy heart, as thy fiance hath felt, thy pain shall be eternal, and thou shalt descend into everlasting madness for thou shalt walk alone!" exclaimed the gods, as the woman fled.
And to til the end of the earth, she shall be a succubus; to never be loved.
